I'm a Bit Dim!

Kay Burley must be Sky News’ most valuable presenter. The more obnoxious she is, the more people tune in to watch their programme or search for clips of her being hideous on You Tube. Thus the myth of the Burley grows ever stronger. Possibly, the Burley is the most interesting thing Sky has got going for them. Although that isn’t exactly a compliment, Rupert!

Luckily, Labour MP Chris Bryant must have been pre-warned about the presenters’ lack of what one might loosely term ‘bearing’ (by which I believe I am trying to infer that she is somewhat overbearing). Chris, surely now a major contender for the Labour Leadership, having actually shown a bit of sense told the Burley One that she was “A bit dim” A bit, Chris? Only a bit? Still, at least he showed her up good n’ proper!

So, I think it’s time to drag out that good ole “Sack Kay Burley” t-shirt out again, just to remind ourselves of her previous misdemeanours, like making Peter Andre cry, surely a sackable offence, if ever there was one! I love the way she says “I’m here to play Devil’s advocate”. So not to bring people the news then, Kay?

Wild at Heart!

Everyone in LA seems to wear Wildfox Couture t-shirts, they must be the most popular label around. Combining quirky statement with prints that look a bit like those sugarey loveheart sweets I used to love when I was little, they’re practically a trend in themselves. Actually, didn’t they update those sweets for the new generation with things like “Text me!” on them? Anyway, Wildfox is the name to look out for when doing a bit of celeb spotting in the name of research.

Full of bite and attitude, the foxy numbers are favourites of  Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox and just about anybody else who is anybody else.

Think funny slogan, quirky hand drawn pastel print and oversize t-shirt or vest t-shirt and have a go for yourself. Slogan tees are where it’s at right now, so keep up by designing your own little number. I’ve gone back to the sugar hearts for inspiration, which look amazing on t-shirts. I so used to love those sweets!

Poached Paulo!

Poached Paulo!

Now, if there’s one thing I love more than the poptastical Paulo Nutini and his glorious guitar then it’s designing t-shirts, and even then it’s a close run thing. So what joy would it be if there were a legitimate way to combine the two? Well, the happy face from above (who must’ve popped out form some milk when we were playing the football) is smiling down on me once more and has decreed that mere mortals such as my and yourself are to be invited to design a t-shirt for the official website of Paulo Nutini. And then it will be sold as his very own Paulo T-shirt. How fab lolly is that!

Not that I would particularly want to win or anything, but I just thought I might have a little flex of my design muscles and give making a Paulo t-shirt a pop. OK, to be honest I was up all night perfecting my fried egg with Paulo undertones.  But what do you think? Eggsellent? Or is it too much like the sun in the Teletubbies and thus eggstinct?

Charity T-shirts are always popular, especially if they have good designs, are well made, and rather importantly, are affordable. So, it’s very nice to see the 10,000 Hearts idea of the charity Trekstock, who raise money to fund research and provide support for young people suffering from cancer. Their fund-raising is simple and effective; by providing exclusive merchandising collaborations with musicians and other cool folk, they have raised tonnes of money and highlighted the needs and the difficulties for teenagers living with cancer.

Until July 15th, they will be selling 10 different designs of uber cool t-shirts in their pop up shop in London’s Carnaby Street. With some great designs from Bloc Party, Delphic, Devendra Banhart, Ellie Goulding, Foals, The Horrors, Little Boots, Local Natives, The Maccabees and Yeasayer, these t-shirts should go like hot cakes, especially as at £10 each, they’re not going to make your wallet implode. Oh, and their patron is oft touted as the hippest man on the planet, Mark Ronson (he of the sister that was wrapped around Lindsay Lohan long before her SWAG bracelet) so we’re talking good kudos t-shirts here. Have a peep.

Scoring a Fashion Goal!

Scoring a Fashion Goal!

I almost didn’t want to say anything more about the World Cup since it looked as though we might be following the French back home in disgrace. However, something went right against Slovenia and we’re on for another game. Hooray! Against the Germans. Oh no, surely not the Germans!

The English and their old rivals are due to meet on Sunday, and the English boys are being allowed a little frolic with their patiently shopping, er waiting WAGS.

Now the boring matches are out of the way, and it’s sudden death, there’s also the possibility that more people will become interested in the second round, and so World Cup fashion rears it’s beautiful head once again.

There’s a definite amount of variety in the World Cup wear available to Women. Different garments with versions of the England flag lift football t-shirts out of the Sporty Spice league, and into something you might actually enjoy wearing. Whilst you could go for a red sparkly cross on the t-shirt of your choice, or an I Love England motif, or my old favourite the collage, the possibilities are endless if you want to create your own look.

This vest t-shirt from Next scores highly in terms of patriotism and style. The stripey top is very now, and the England logo is nice and shiny, making it a perfect all round summer item.

Top German WAG showing us how it's done. Obviously!

Top German WAG showing us how it's done. Obviously!

You could, of course, go one better, especially if you are supporting Germany, and do like their WAGS. Now that’s what I call dedicated!

Celebrating Glastonbury!

Celebrating Glastonbury!

This year the green welly brigade will be out in force as the National Trust hits Glastonbury. Not what might first spring to mind as one of those  firm partnerships like gin and tonic, fish and chips or Kylie and Botox, but hey, the Natty Trust is nothing if not progressive.

Cleverly mixing the likes of Rolf Harris and Snoop Dogg in the festival, I’m sure there will be no problem incoporating the grannies’ favourite. To celebrate their inauguration, Sgt Pepper’s artist and Glastonbury regular Peter Blake has designed a retro t-shirt to commemorate the event, which will be handed out over the weekend and available via online competitions.

The t-shirt features the famous Glastonbury Tor and the Large Blue butterfly which is found nearby thus ensuring that whilst the NT get groovy to the Gorillaz, they don’t forget about preservation and historic monuments. Also, in their Outside Inn area, you will be able to take a break, inhale some fresh air, and if you’re really, really lucky, visit a fine example of their immaculate loos.

Ah, just thinking about zips takes me back to those good ole days of Rainbow. Actually, I was a bit scared of Zippy, but I did love Bungle. Still, that is beside the point. Thing is, zips are erm….zipping back into fashion quicker than you can say “oh no, it’s not because of Victoria Beckham, is it?” and bury your head in your hands. Victoria, famously, has made a bit of a trademark out of very prominent zips snaking down the back of her fitted dresses. So, maybe they look good Vicky, but don’t take the cred from the original Zipster, ok?

Simdog Vest T-shirts

But it does seem that zips are hotter than hot right now, and don’t you forget it. Cult American label Simdog have a range of zip-tastic t-shirts and vests that are taking the Hollywood crowd by storm. Twilight stars Ashley Greene and Kristen Stewart have both been spotted out and about in the zippy tops. Although for 60 pounds from Spoiled Brat, you might want to have a bash at creating your own recession busting t-shirt design, for up to a whole 45 pounds less money.

Or, if you’re really cool, how about the original Zipster?

Several hundred pounds of t-shirt fabness!

Several hundred pounds of t-shirt fabness!

This week, The Telegraph heralded the meteoric rise of the luxury t-shirt. Citing the slashed Balmain number which retails for a cool £934 (or at least it did until it sold out) as a prime example of the garment that keeps getting pricier and pricier. In recent years, cut and shape have been ever more at the forefront of t-shirt design. Length, drape and neckline are all variables that ensure you can get exactly the fit you are looking for. Additionally, t-shirt design has taken off from simple screen printing to state of the art technology where anything goes, and you can design your own t-shirt to your hearts content. From the weird and wacky right through to the high fashion end of the market, the t-shirt has come of age. No longer an in between item, the former army staple has evolved into a piece worthy of eulogies. Well, high praise anyway!

Triumph or disaster?

Triumph or disaster?

Sometimes, I will flick through the money sinking machine that is known as Net-a-Porter, idly wondering who has two thousand pounds to spend on a scrap of cloth, and other times I will gasp astounded at the skill of great designers, and their sheer brilliance with shape, cut and other important stylistic things. Occasionally however, I am stopped dead in my tracks, which instantly calls for a cup of coffee to start me up again. This t-shirt, named “Bird” by Juicy Couture is one of those startled, rabbit in the headlights moments. I am truly flummoxed. Is this a genius piece of fine tailoring, featuring asymmetrical sleeves and hemline and an atmospheric abstract print. Or is it just my dad’s old t-shirt that my mum splattered paint on when she was decorating? I’m sure it’s all very postmodern, this dual aspect t-shirt slash decorating disaster, but I’m not sure if 115 pounds isn’t rather a lot to pay for such polar ambiguity. But maybe therein lies my problem. If I have to ask, I will never understand. Shucks!

Lost Out!

Lost Out!

Enough already! Lost has finally come to an end, and there are still so many unanswered questions! So you never found out what was the significance of the Others, and why they first appeared dressed as pirates. You’ll never know why the Dharma Initiative was killed off, and why Walt wasn’t. Will you discover that the tail of the plane was actually filled with trainee hairstylists that kept the survivors looking immaculate, who also darned their t-shirts, and gave them regular teeth bleaching sessions. Did the numbers really correspond to a series of freckles on Hurley’s bottom? And were they all dead, or are they now? Questions, questions! And there are two schools of thought here: either you give a stuff, or you don’t. Since yesterday’s t-shirt was for the former, stuff giving contingent, today’s will be for the latter. A genius little number, designed by The Boss, who watched the whole thing avidly all the way through. And then wished he hadn’t.
