Melon!

I love the t-shirts for sale by kooky design company areyouamelonoralemon.com, graphic designer Kate Moross, together with stylists Damian Collins and Avigail Claire. The concept being that you choose whether you are more melon or whether you veer to the side of lemon, and choose the appropriate t-shirt for your fruity personality. The t-shirts are unisex and mouthwateringly bright and cheerful, and have been seen out and about on the fashion concious for a while now. The difficult question is which one are you, a sweet and juicy melon-y type, or more of a tangy zesty lemon? After much consideration, and hard decision making, I think I’m going for the lemon, melon’s can be a bit too sweet for me sometimes. These have got to be the funnest t-shirts around, and I’m sure a glut of melons and lemons will be around for a while.

Hopefully not dangling from the rooftops!

What I love about t-shirts is that they are so versatile, and anyone can be a designer any time and anywhere. They’re the cheapest and quickest way to showcase a design or slogan, and their appeal is worldwide. What is particularly interesting is when you come across t-shirt printing and design ideas in cultures quite distant from our own.

I enjoyed a story  in Arab News about some very entrepreneurial Egyptians who literally took to the rooftops (not quite sure why, to be honest, but it sounds good) and started selling their designs from there. The company is called “Nas” which means people in Arabic, and they offer online competitions to get the best t-shirt designs. They have recently expanded into Saudi Arabia where they offer t-shirts with imagery around well known proverbs. The best bit is of course the raw materials; they use 100% Egyptian cotton, ,how incredibly luxurious. So if you get fed up of wearing them, you can always use them as de luxe pillowcases. Fabulous!

Mintees is a brilliant design forum, where you can rate, share and buy various t-shirt designs. It’s one of those sites you have to keep going back to for inspiration and to check out the newest designs, as well as rate the ones you like the best. There are some amazing pieces of artwork, and also some simple, yet clever motifs and images. I love this one, entitled “Papernauts“, posted at the weekend by Moulin Bleu, a classic and brilliantly thought out t-shirt design. Take a look, you’ll keep on going back again and again.

Head in the Clouds?

T-shirt design site Mintees is a wonderful place where people can share t-shirt designs and rate other people’s t-shirts. There is some amazing artwork and a host of designers working to bring their creativity to a wider audience. You can post your own tee or artwork, buy some of the t-shirts and rate what’s been posted. The designs range form the simple yet clever through to some fantastic graphics and intricate images.

A community site like this has the advantage of being able to showcase many different styles and talents, with some brilliant t-shirts up for grabs too. I love this one entitled “clouded judgement”. It’s worth checking out simply for some inspiration and new ideas.

Keeping Abreast of Fashion!

I don’t quite know what to say about this t-shirt, except that it’s probably my favourite ever. I was having a look for Vivienne Westwood t-shirts on ebay, having been inspired by her great designs for Comic Relief, and found this absolute classic.

The bidding on ebay is starting at £99.00, with a Buy-It-Now of £115.00. Quite steep, but this is such a fabulous tee, you really can’t complain. I am wondering to which gender the breast belongs; on balance I feel it is a man’s. However you can have a lot of fun working it out! The wine stain is also part of the garment, suggesting that the whole effect is one of rather a debauched night out.

A fantastic design that would keep you going for ever, truly what t-shirt printing is all about.

Hello Boys!

It was almost a terrible case of RIP the Gingerbread man! Lancashire officials deemed he be killed off primary school menus and rebranded a gingerbread person. How completely shocking. One of the best things you can do with a gingerbread man is ice him yourself and give him whatever bits and pieces you want. In fact, I think it’s almost better to give those ginger fellows  some sort of gender indication, otherwise who knows what chaos might ensue. Fortunately, after a public outcry, the gingerbread man has got his manliness back. Phew! So, just to celebrate, here’s a t-shirt with a lovely gingerbread girly for him to play with; she’s even got a ginger vajazzle…well, she is a natural redhead!

Hold the Bernaise Sauce!

Just a few weeks ago, we brought you our animal friendly t-shirt version of Lady Gaga’s meaty dress. An alternative to smelling like an old abattoir and being covered in maggots, we thought.

Well, it seems this is not enough, as today it emerged that Gaga-esque beef dresses are catching on as a must have item this Halloween. Apparently, a lean steak dress will set you back around $2000, and has a very short shelf life. Possibly, you wouldn’t want to eat it afterwards, but you never know, and honestly I don’t even want to go there.

Chewy!

So, let’s try again with the t-shirt version. I’ve found a nice image of some raw, fatty meat with those tubey things going through it. Really gross, and yet much, much more appetising than being slathered in the real thing. Surely?

The t-shirt also costs considerably less, so just imagine, you could design your own meaty t-shirt and still have plenty left over for some nice steak and chips. Actually, make that a salad, I’m starting to feel a little queasy…….

Where's Pepsi and shirley?

The news that George Michael has landed an 8 week stint at Her Majesty’s pleasure has prompted some very mixed reactions. George, despite his fondness for drugs and toilets is a bit of what we like to call a “National Treasure”. The man who brought us “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” and “Careless Whisper” has become iconic in his fallibility and sheer inability to stay out of public conveniences. The joke going around at the moment is that George is the only person ever to volunteer to clean the prison toilets!

Still, we love George, from his bouncy haired days and those early t-shirts. I think we should all come out in support of him in our choose life tees. It’s a whole lot better idea than the”Linnocent” ones that someone thought up for Lindsay Lohan!

I'm a Bit Dim!

Kay Burley must be Sky News’ most valuable presenter. The more obnoxious she is, the more people tune in to watch their programme or search for clips of her being hideous on You Tube. Thus the myth of the Burley grows ever stronger. Possibly, the Burley is the most interesting thing Sky has got going for them. Although that isn’t exactly a compliment, Rupert!

Luckily, Labour MP Chris Bryant must have been pre-warned about the presenters’ lack of what one might loosely term ‘bearing’ (by which I believe I am trying to infer that she is somewhat overbearing). Chris, surely now a major contender for the Labour Leadership, having actually shown a bit of sense told the Burley One that she was “A bit dim” A bit, Chris? Only a bit? Still, at least he showed her up good n’ proper!

So, I think it’s time to drag out that good ole “Sack Kay Burley” t-shirt out again, just to remind ourselves of her previous misdemeanours, like making Peter Andre cry, surely a sackable offence, if ever there was one! I love the way she says “I’m here to play Devil’s advocate”. So not to bring people the news then, Kay?

Wild at Heart!

Everyone in LA seems to wear Wildfox Couture t-shirts, they must be the most popular label around. Combining quirky statement with prints that look a bit like those sugarey loveheart sweets I used to love when I was little, they’re practically a trend in themselves. Actually, didn’t they update those sweets for the new generation with things like “Text me!” on them? Anyway, Wildfox is the name to look out for when doing a bit of celeb spotting in the name of research.

Full of bite and attitude, the foxy numbers are favourites of  Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox and just about anybody else who is anybody else.

Think funny slogan, quirky hand drawn pastel print and oversize t-shirt or vest t-shirt and have a go for yourself. Slogan tees are where it’s at right now, so keep up by designing your own little number. I’ve gone back to the sugar hearts for inspiration, which look amazing on t-shirts. I so used to love those sweets!
