0e7a5315To my tiny little mind, present buying shouldn’t start until December. That makes me pretty disorganised according to most people, who had their lists done and dusted in September, but there you are. I don’t know anyone grown up who actually needs anything, so present buying becomes a quest to hunt down gifts that show love, affection and a bit of thought.

One of my favourite ideas is a personalised mug for friends. Pictures, slogans or a list of tea requirements hit the spot every time. Or a picture on a phone case. For a tenner, it’s a gift you know will get used and appreciated.

Or for the ultimate in hug value, take a look at our teddy bears, cows and dogs. Personalise their t-shirts with a picture or a message, and watch the recipient go a little bit misty eyed when they unwrap their very personal gift.

A bit of thought, and a couple of clicks, that’s all it takes. Happy present buying!

8V7A8497You could be forgiven for thinking that the country’s ever so slightly confused at the moment. Brexit, Boris and some other chap have left us in what’s known in the trade as a bit of an omnishambles.

Still, summer is here, schools are breaking up all over the place and hundreds of schoolchildren are looking forward to 6 weeks of lie ins and no homework. Who cares if the nation rots when you don’t have to do times tables until they’re coming out of your ears.

Thank you gifts with a personal touch are just the thing for teachers, friends or collegues, whatever time of year. Our most popular teacher mug ever bears the slogan ‘Keep Calm and Pretend it’s on the Lesson Plan’ wise words, maybe we could have a ‘Keep Calm and Pretend You Know what You’re Doing’ for the new incumbents at Westminster as well!!

So today the Boss sent me a link to this Ninja mug on eBay. I actually think he has a hankering after one of them himself (or maybe a Ninja mug team, I wouldn’t put it past him). It’s so awesome the title is ‘Ninja Mug. Removable Ninja Cover, Ninja Star Coaster, Samurai Sword Spoon. That is so totally beyond, I think I may well have to invest…..Beware….Ninjaa are hiding in the coffeeeeeee……!!!!

Smart Mug is the design brain child of Evita Krumina, put forward on innovative web site Kickstarter. A porcelain white mug with a light up indicator to tell you when your brew is at the optimum temperature to drink. Dishwasher safe, and with a ten year life span, the Smart Mug has already attracted masses of support via the website, recently spilling over to the national press.

As much as part of me wants to state the fairly obvious fact that most people tend to use their fingers to tell if their tea is ok to drink, I am loving the idea of Kickstarter so much that I have to be supportive and insist everybody buys one. Hey, it’s one Christmas present in the (tea) bag!

I love how around this time of year, we start to get the first Christmas orders in. I wish I was so organised as to start my buying now, but alas I was born to be tardy with my Christmas shopping. Fortunately, knowing as I do, how cute childrens’ drawings look printed upon a mug, I have employed various nieces and nephews to provide the artwork for those all important Christmas mugs, mousemats and other gifts.

It’s incredibly sweet, how pictures and drawings printed onto mugs and other accommodating surfaces can turn into treasured possessions. I know several people who won’t let anyone use their favourite mugs because they want to keep them perfect.

Have a look and see what you can put on a mug, and get ahead on your festive shopping. Works a treat!

Nice Stong Cuppa!

Tis the season to be jolly, well getting that way, even though it’s early October. Still, the hunt for festive frivolity comes around quicker than the X Factor, and the time for finding those thoughtful gifts will run out before you can say “Deck the Halls” and make a box of Christmas crackers.

This mug from Trendhunter in the shape of a toilet is a great novelty gift for friends you can’t find anything for, uncles with a dodgy sense of humour, or your office manager. Filled with a nice cup of tea, the mug is rather reminiscent of a scene in Trainspotting. I dread to think what it would be like if you had a nice frothy cappucino in it! This is definitely my favourite gift so far for Christmas. It has that wonderful mix of gross out and practical. I might have to order a job lot!

Ah well now the new mugshot of Paris Hilton has been released, so it’s only right to place it firmly where it belongs, that is on a mug. Paris, for all her faults, does at least have the prettiest collection of mugshots around. It’s almost as though she were expecting it! If she gets arrested just another 3 times, we could go the whole hog and make a set of 6 mugs, what a treat. That would be the perfect Christmas gift for all Paris fans, wouldn’t it! You could have a matching set of all of her perfumes and you’d be off. Just imagine the fun you could have, guessing the year, the offence and the corresponding perfume, I wonder if Paris has already thought of this, and is quite aware she only has three mugs to go? She is a one woman publicity machine, so don’t be surprised if she goes and launches the Paris Mugshot Mugs herself! But don’t forget you saw it here first!

Second only to the “I agree with Nick” t-shirts that are bounding out of the TShirt Studio warehouse are the “Team Clegg” t-shirts that are being ordered. I’m feeling a tad disappointed that “Team Call me Dave” isn’t striking out there too. Anyway, just have a gander at this picture of the dear chap, and see if you can think of a good slogan to put with this.

It’s like a leadership poll all of its very own, just seeing which politician is garnering the most t-shirts and mugs. Funny, David Cameron hasn’t bagged a lot of hoodies yet, though. Wonder why!

Say it with flowers!

Say it with flowers!

Oh no! Valentine’s Day is truly only a heartbeat away! Whatever should one get for a loved one, or in my case my mum who always expects a thoughtful and caring gift (I did say expects….not gets). Well, there are still many options available, even if you have totally forgotten the most hyped of feast days. Whilst our heart shaped cushions may be just the thing for your loved one, flowers are always a fail-safe option…… make sure they’re not too naff though. A bunch from the petrol station can send the wrong message and totally backfire; thinking you can get away with cheap trash is worse than not thinking at all! Alternatively, you could take the love of your life out for a meal….even though the sight of 30 other couples trying not to dribble their spaghetti might be a tad offputting. I rather like the idea of buying a map and sticking pins in the places you have been together or drawing a heart and bunging it romantically on a mug. There is still time to redeem yourself, but hurry you haven’t got long! There’s a lot riding on this…

Alas, the deep breath and counting to ten is said to no longer  to be an effective technique for crisis management. Really? Well, it never worked for me anyway. Especially, on a day like today, when I have a flat tyre and snowfall to deal with. I  just don’t feel as though my war-time mentality is going to kick in. In fact I want to scream and shout. Lots. And it seems as though I’m not the only one  for whom a stiff upper lip is not an option. In response to the “Keep Calm and Carry On” slogan that has become hugely popular, (I even wrote about it here I seem to remember) a mug with a more realistic alternative  has hit the marketplace. And about time too. “Now Panic and Freak Out” by designer Olly Moss is much more like my response when I saw my rear tyre all floppy this morning. Or you could even get creative and make up your own slogan. Many an apt word springs to mind!
