I love these t-shirts by  Tourne de Transmission, a whole new take on the slogan genre. The t-shirts are montages of slogan and artwork, inspired by the layout of panels in  old newspapers, or plates in ancient books. The designs come courtesy of UK designer and PR expert Graeme Gaughan, and are making waves in the fashion world due to their sharp lines, air of mystique and arty black and whiteness. The letters MMX incorporated into the logo are Roman numerals for the year 2010, when the brand was created. A label to watch.

How much do I love this skull print t-shirt by Alexander McQueen? The trademark skull gets a spooky reinvention and looks almost tie dyed on this slubby navy cotton t-shirt. It’s past most peoples’ budgets, at a whacking £280 available from Net a Porter, but is truly fabulous and is one of those pieces which would last for years and years and years.

If that’s just a leetle bit too pricey, however, then take a look at this one from River Island available at ASOS. For only £18 it won’t blast the budget as much as the McQueen one, but has a McQueen-y feel to it.

Two different tees, two madly different budgets, quite a similar look, really. But one is Alexander McQueen, and that just makes it about 15 times more expensive. I still love it though!

Inspired by Forrest Gump

Last Exit to Nowhere is a t-shirt design company that has brought together a mixture of designers, photographers, artist and film enthusiasts. Their t-shirts are all inspired by popular films of various categories and the aim is to create an amazing range of tees, well made and with unique designs.

I love these t-shirts, they are all so inventive. Take a look at this one, inspired by the film Forrest Gump. Really good graphics combined with a well made t-shirt. Definitely worth checking these guys out.

Stare too long at one of knitwear designer Brooke Roberts‘ pieces, and you could be forgiven for going a bit bleary eyed. Prior to studying design at Central Saint Martins, Roberts worked as a radiographer, studying CT scans and x-rays for a living. This rather interesting career path has led to her very graphic images which are essentially an exploration of the relationship between science and design. Her website says  that ‘….a visionary in the use of medical images as surface design, Brooke programmes her knitwear from x-rays and CT scans, body-mapping and contouring to achieve striking graphic effects through colour and texture.’ Wow. That sounds intense.

I love the idea of using x-rays as design images, so I have been having a lot of fun trying out t-shirts with them on. I like the way the x-rays fit onto the t-shirt’s background, which works really nicely with a simple black and white contrast. I will keep playing with this one!

Head in the Clouds?

T-shirt design site Mintees is a wonderful place where people can share t-shirt designs and rate other people’s t-shirts. There is some amazing artwork and a host of designers working to bring their creativity to a wider audience. You can post your own tee or artwork, buy some of the t-shirts and rate what’s been posted. The designs range form the simple yet clever through to some fantastic graphics and intricate images.

A community site like this has the advantage of being able to showcase many different styles and talents, with some brilliant t-shirts up for grabs too. I love this one entitled “clouded judgement”. It’s worth checking out simply for some inspiration and new ideas.

Healty Tee!

Men’s Health magazine has successfully proved that men do read magazines that don’t just  have mammary overload. Or maybe their wives/girlfriends buy it for their partners in the hope that they will want to read a magazine that keeps abreast of men’s issues and doesn’t just keep breasts in their issues.

Anyway, it’s a varied read, with lots of tips on how to loose the flab and become gleamingly adonis-like with an enormous 6 pack in the space of about 25 minutes. In their stylish and healthy man section they show how healthy and stylish men are all wearing printed t-shirts, like this fab one celebrating ten years of Marc Jacobs diffusion line.

I’m not sure if this is their aim, but why not give it a go. Skip the exercise bit, shun the healthy eating plan and exotic man-cooking and try t-shirt printing really as the easiest way forward to become a paragon of Men’s Health!

Rats not Cats!

I’ve just found these amazing limited edition t-shirts by designers Young Lovers. These are some seriously good graphic tees, and with an amazing exclusivity factor as each design is only being printed onto a mere hundred t-shirts.

After having a good browse through the online selection, I decided that this was probably my favourite; I always love a good variation on a theme and this rats as Cats (the musical) is brilliant. It has that double take factor which is what all the best t-shirts have, and is very very funny. The little silhouette rodents are perfectly ratty and I just think the whole thing has the makings of a cult classic. Go check them out, but do it fast. Right now! Hurry!

Say Yes!

In my lifelong quest for great t-shirt prints and designs (I really trek the globe, I do), I found these great tees from Illustrated People. (Actually, the whole globetrotting in the name of tees thing is a bit exaggerated; I found them on the Topshop website, but it was roughly the same thing)

The fabric of these vests is very floppy; made from 100% viscose, they have that cool and slouchy feel to them. The prints look graphic and retro and seem the perfect combination for skinny jeans and other denim delights. Check them out. Their menswear range is in the pipeline right now, but would be well worth taking a look at in the future.

Bunny Girl!

Much has been made of the X Factor contestants choice of style, and many column inches dedicated to what they are all wearing. Within a short space of time, they have to make their mark, and show the public how suited they are to being mega popstars. Or alternatively, how they can cut it as the new Jedward if it all goes a bit pear shaped!

Cher Lloyd is one of the finalists who divides opinion on a weekly basis. One thing is for sure however, she knows a good t-shirt when she sees it! Check her out in this skull bunny number from NewBreed Girl. Then have a look at some of their other t-shirt prints and see what you make of them. I love the big bold graphics and humorous cartoon-like styles.

Help!

Take a look at this fantastic shark attack t-shirt, available from Reload Clothing. Definitely number one in my book!

Shiny Happy (Dead) People!

I love the idea behind t-shirt design company Threadless. People send in t-shirt designs which are made into t-shirts for you to buy. They’ve just released a book with some of the best t-shirts they have made, together with the idea behind the shirt.

One of the things I love about t-shirts is that it is so easy to create your own artwork and put it onto a tee. So this book of wonderful t-shirts is fantastic and worth checking out on their website.

This is one of my favourite t-shirts ever, designed by Budi Satria Kwan called “Bye Bye Apocalypse”. The image within a skull isn’t all that new, but I love how delightful and sweet the picture in the middle is, all lovely and happy and stepping stoney, aw. Also probably a bit dead, but never mind. Check it out and get drawing, you know you want to!
