Yotty Totty?
I loved the Topman t-shirt I posted on here just the other week with the slogan “Your tent or mine?” so appropriate for this seasons festival shenanigans, and yet how how how much more classy is this little number by Illustrated People at Topshop with the charming invitation “Your Yacht or Mine?” printed across the chest, with cutesome little heart and anchor motif.
Not only is the slogan tippity-top-tastic, but I love the cut of the sweatshirt. Raglan sleeves and totally vintage, slouchy style, it almost seems your yacht has been around for ages. Genius!
The only downside, I have to say, I’m not a big fan of the fabric mix; 50% polyester just isn’t done darling, but for 35 quid and the utter coolness of the top, I’ll give it a big thumbs up!

Missing Something?
Taylor Momsen seems to me to spend her life trying to prove how controversial she is, how rebellious, how goth-like blah…blah…blah…! Of course what really works against her is the whole child star thing, the stint in Gossip Girl, the far too clean hair and the clothes that are out-performed by her tampon string. Pity, as she’s not that bad a singer, and if she was dragged backwards and forwards through a hedge a few times she might look a bit more authentic. As it is, the squeaky clean half is disturbingly at odds with the “X marks the nip” tit-tape look.
Here she is, showing how a t-shirt looks a bit lonely without anything on the bottom…..like er…..more clothes. More teen shocker than hard core rocker, Taylor has the dubious honour of being famous for a piece of string. Which is not always a wonderful thing.

Super (injunction) Man!
Until approximately a month ago, I don’t think anyone really cared what Ryan Giggs got up to in his own time. However, following yesterday’s grand unveiling of what is being touted as Britains’ worst kept secret, we are all allowed to snigger and say “I told you so”. A lot. Had the threads of secrecy not been pulled so tightly around the lurid allegations that Giggsy got jiggy with a Big Brother contestant, it would have garnered a little paragraph in the tabloids and then disappeared, just another footballer and his over excitable tackle. Not exactly anything new there, move along people.
But the most super of injunctions has led to an internet uprising. How dare the rich be able to get away with whatever they like? Thus followed the biggest cyber man hunt ever; to be fair, we haven’t got much going on in our little lives now the Royal Wedding is over, and the whisperings of who it might be is the most fun we’ve had in ages. Of course, now it’s a bit of an anti-climax; Giggs has shot himself in the foot by trying to prevent what is already common knowledge. His lawyers have potentially lost themselves a glut of celebrity clients, all seeking to cover up their indiscretions, and the boss is free to let his creative self go and make a wonderful t-shirt of it all.
Maybe the saddest thing, however, is that nobody comes out of it looking very good. Not Giggs, nor his alleged bit on the side, not the lawyers nor the people sniping over the social networking sites to see who it is. Maybe if we were a bit more like the French, and oh so discreetly turned a blind eye, it wouldn’t even be news at all. But then we wouldn’t be able to make wonderful t-shirts about it, would we. And where’s the fun in that!

Torn Tee!
It’s quite strange sometimes looking at top designer t-shirts. You can wonder if you’re missing something, if maybe you’re a bit too cerebrally challenged to appreciate the magnificent creative genius before you. It happens with the likes of Tracy Emin as well. Try as I might, squinting from every angle, I simply can’t quite get the “genius” bit.
This Balmain t-shirt, from Net-a-Porter, is a classic example. With it’s price tag of £1,165, it is a massive investment piece. Obviously referencing posh punk, it’s part of the tough girl look that Balmain does so well. But I just don’t get it. I feel if it’s a case of the Emporor’s Distressed New Clothes, and it’s really just a t-shirt with loads of rips and safety pins. If I went to Primark and bought a tee for a quid and ripped it to shreds and then pinned it all together again, I would be saving myself £1,164, and get pretty much the same effect. But then that would would be just an imitation which, as we all know, is the sincerest form of flattery. Ah well.

The Third Eye!
Hat designer extraordiniare Phillip Treacy, has been quick to jump in and defend the young Royal Princesses guilty of wearing his headgear at the Wedding of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. Quoted in Vogue, he states “My inspiration was beauty and elegance” , looks like he veered off course a bit then. He goes on to say “I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful” which honestly begs the question of why did he put Beatrice in Hannibal Lecter’s birthday mask?
Anyway, enough of that. I’m sure Beatrice is cringing with embarrassment enough already; but before I go, here’s another little something the boss made.

There's life, Jim, but not as we know it!
Possibly the funniest thing about the Royal Wedding was the atrocious attire of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, spawn of “Massage-Boy” Prince Andrew and “Toe Sucker” Fergie. Born to Royalty; wealth, privilege and bodyguards at their beck and call, Mother Nature obviously felt they had enough going for them, and abstained from bestowing on them any fashion sense. At all.
Valiantly have they struggled against their gene pool, and carved a niche for themselves as harmless if a little flighty socialites, however they can’t always fight against type, and the wedding just brought to the forefront all that which should have remained hidden.
It was as though their fairy godmother used up all of her sartorial wand waving on Pippa Middleton and had no magical powers left; Eugenie and Beatrice looked just a teeny bit like the older sisters out of a Cinderella story. Beatrice in particular looked positively scary staring out from under her hat, a Phillip Treacy bow-like concoction that would have been more at home on a wreath. Eugenie was awesome, or do I mean awful? in vibrant blue with lots of eye-liner.
Poor things. Such a pity no-one thought to warn them, but so much more fun for us. Can’t wait to see what t-shirt the boss comes up with, I can see him twitching in the corner, as the creative genius starts to flow! Watch and wait!

A great sporting moment!
The weather still isn’t showing any signs of noticing it’s still April and it looks as though it’s going to stay that way for a while yet. One of our trusty t-shirt crew is training for her first ever triathlon, and is busy designing a fitting vest top to wear for various stages of the race.
I’m not sure if I could ever contemplate taking part in a triathlon. However I do wonder if my routine of getting up, waking to the fridge, pouring a glass of wine or beer, getting crisps and finally sitting down again counts as enough stages for me to say I’m in training? Maybe that’s a monathlon? A wonderful thought! I shall design my very own monathlon t-shirt without delay. Much more civilised than all that running around, and you’re a winner every time!

The er....Harry Couple?
Sometimes things don’t go quite as you had hoped, in which case it’s always useful to have a backup plan. This wonderful souvenir mug of this year’s Royal Wedding featuring Kate Middleton and Prince Harry seems to be one of those plan B moments. Smart girl, I’d say. If brother number one doesn’t work out, there’s always the other one. They don’t call them the heir and the spare for nothing. It’s like handbags. Well, sort of.
Sadly, the mugs are almost certainly a hoax. Allegedly made by a Chinese company, Guandong Enterprises, and featuring choice phrases such as ‘The fairytale romantic union of all the centuries’ and you are invited to ‘be our guests to own this esteemed, limited edition heirloom’ the firm is registered in Britain.
Still, it’s no less funny for all that. A word of warning, however. If you plan on making your own wedding mugs, maybe do the design yourself, and get the right couple in the picture. Just a thought!

Just Hoofing Around!
The average woman will spend £31,000 on shoes in a lifetime…allegedly. Although I’m sure if you asked any women they would strenuously deny it, whilst doing shifty eye movements as they calculate how far above average they come in. Shoes are arguably the most important part of an outfit, so these be-hoofed lovelies, especially made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Cheltenham festival this week should have you first past the post in the fashion stakes.
Commissioned by Betfair, the boots are lovingly made with real horsehair and cost a mere £1300, only a few percent of your lifetime budget, so well worth every penny, and all the money goes to charity, so it’s more of a donation than a purchase.
What I love about these boots is how they really suit having heels; there’s a real equine elegance to them. I shouldn’t be surprised if they catch on in the real world. Take that Christian Louboutin!
