Happy New Year!

Whether it be fireworks and banging (that’ll be the head the next day), or an early night with a nice quiet book and a cup of cocoa, have a wonderfully happy new year from all of us at T-shirt Studio. And what a year an amazing year it’s been. Well, ish. Riots, Nick Clegg and Kim Kardashian’s short-lived wedding have kept us despairing of the planet’s future. And we already have an idea of what will keep us entertained next. The 2012 Oympics, Jeremy Clarkson causing extreme outrage amongst people who never watch him on the telly, and more celeb marriages that last about as long as a piece of chewing gum. Hey ho! Well, here’s to the first t-shirt of 2012, the first of very many. Hic!

Economic Aid!

After reading somewhere in the paper that most of the sales shoppers were from far away lands and were thus not paying any VAT on their shopping, I thought I might invoke a bit of the Lord Kitchener spirit and make a t-shirt inviting shoppers to spend a bit more, just to bolster the economy a bit. Not that it needs it. It’s all fine, dandy and about to dance a jig. Honest. But just in case, y’know……

Christmas Turk-Tee!

Christmas is a looming and it the turkey isn’t stuffed by now then you will be. I love to be prepared in the manner of Delia, Nigella or even (though it pains me to say it) Jamie, so that Christmas Eve is a relaxed and enjoyable time, without too many last minute panics, like who bought the brussel sprouts and did everyone know that Aunty X is allergic to cloves, stuffing and absolutely everything else that is going on the table.

For the actual culinary pinacle that is shoving the turkey into the oven and wedging the door shut with a chair, I like to don the Christmas t-shirt. It’s one of those traditions which started one year when I realised I didn’t have an apron, and has become a bit of a thing. The Christmas tee changes every year, but carries the same sentiment; don’t mess with the turkey chef. I feel it sends a definite message at this festive time, and tells people, politely (ok I’ve censored it) to Back. Right. Off.

I love our t-shirt templates. So much fun to play around with and far easier than actually having to come up with any ideas yourself. A good thing at this time of year, when the little grey cells are severely compromised by trying to come up with interesting gifts for under a tenner.

I love this snowflake print. Full of festive cheer and great fun to come up with little slogans or names to go in the middle. It looks as though you spent ages coming up with something creative, stylish and fun. In reality it took two seconds and was as easy as overdoing it with the mince pies. We really are Santa’s little helpers, aren’t we!

Handcrafted to a Tee!

Sunspel is a distinguished British clothing manufacturer which has been making quality menswear since 1860. Although not a high street name, they were responsible for Nick Camen’s boxer shorts in the famous Levis laundrette ad and clothing Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.

From the first of December Sunspel are introducing a bespoke t-shirt service. Designed to your own specifications the t-shirt is chosen from a range elements which are then put together for you. Select from slim or relaxed fit, pocket or no pocket, and a variety of colours.

The process continues “After the order is received, it is sent to the Sunspel factory in Long Eaton. Here experienced cutters select the hand-cut card pattern in the requested size along with the requested fabric colours. The t-shirt is cut out by hand and labelled with the customer’s name to begin its journey through the factory. It is handed to experienced machinists, overlockers and binders to be made up with great care.”

Finally the monogram is added to either the pocket or the hem, the label is attached and the shirt is pressed before being sent to the store for the customer to collect. A totally luxurious service, and one that is bound to be a big hit, although the tees, as you can imagine, don’t come cheap, starting at £100.

This looks to be the gentleman’s shirt, the ultimate in customising your own t-shirt from scratch.

A photo of rap star/mogul Jay-Z sporting a t-shirt with an offshoot of the Occupy slogan has zoomed around the world causing consternation. With his mega mogul millions, Jay-Z is unlikely to be feeling the effects of the recession and is more likely to be seen shopping for diamonds and general baby bling for his wife, the reasonably well known Beyonce. It transpires the tee is made by Roc-a-Wear, Jay-Z’s own ickle clothing company and is (big quotation marks here) “inspired” by the Wall street protests. What the slogan actually says is “Occupy All streets”, with a bit of fabric graffiti changing the wording of the slogan. The t-shirt disappeared off the website for a few days, bringing huge sighs of relief, surely Jay-Z had seen the error of his ways; that it was more than slightly unethical to profit from the Wall Street protest. But then the offending article ricocheted back onto the shelves and the imbalance was restored.

Maybe the super duper star is so far removed from the real world, he thinks his take on the slogan is ironic. I hope so, because otherwise, someone who belongs firmly in the 1% of the mega wealthy wearing this tee is pure rap. With a silent “C”

Capitalism City!

One of life’s cruel little ironies must be that over in the States, some bright entrepreneurial souls are starting to sell Occupy Wall Street t-shirts, mugs and other merchandise emblazoned with the “Occupy” logo. Even the whole Occupy and 99% thingey is being trademarked. I can see the point of advertising the protest to raise awareness, however cashing in on the protest is kind of missing the point a bit, no?

Go and check out theoccupystore and take a look at capitalism at it’s most weasely, sheesh you can even customise your own Occupy t-shirt……how long before it takes on over in the UK do you think?

S is for Snakeskin!

If you thought it was all about leopard print, you were way behind the times, honey. In fact fashion is going wild about ALL any kind of animal right now. Zebra, snake, cheetah and giraffe are making their presence known, and leopard is no longer the coolest cat in town.

The discerning fashionista avoids too much of one thing, and settles for accessories or printed shirts or t-shirts. All over animal print is great for night time, but needs to be toned down a little in the daytime to avoid your inner Bet Lynch taking over completely. I do love a good jungle themed printed t-shirt, which fits the fashion bill perfectly, and lets your inner animal out, without you looking too much like wrapping paper.

Take a look at this tank top by Michael Kors diffusion line Michael, available from Net-a-Porter for a slithering £110. A lovely snakey affair, but a tad pricey so use more as a wonderful inspiration for all kinds of snakeskin prints.

Everything’s fashion-wise is going a bit 20′s at the moment. Spring summer fashion for next year is all the flapper look, the Baz Luhrman take on the Great Gatsby is currently filming in Australia, and hair make up is glossy bobs and red, red lips. Fashion does tend to go around come back again, but this is such a wonderful trend, and you can spot it a mile off.

Bather Girls

Take a look at this exquisite printed jumper by Richard Nicholl, available from Matches. A stunning piece of work, and a must in every fashionista’s wardrobe. It features a delicate vintage print of two young girls bathing, partially obscured by a rose. The fabric mix is 70% silk and 30% cashmere, so total luxury and a really fantastic mix for displaying the image. This is going to be on every girl’s wish list for Christmas, but with a price tag of £660, only the few are going to get lucky.
